The popular Indian television producer and actor, Raghu Ram celebrated his 45th birthday this year on April 15. Raghu Ram has worked as a senior supervising producer at MTV India, where he created popular reality television shows like MTV Roadies, MTV Dropout Pvt Ltd, and MTV Splitsvilla.

Raghu Ram Biography

Raghu Ram is born on April 15, 1975, in an urban village in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, along with his identical twin brother Rajiv Laxmanan who is also a producer and television producer. They have a younger sister Supriya Nistala who is married and has a daughter. His father Viswanath Ambadapudi is a chartered accountant and mother Radha Viswanath is a journalist who specialises in political affairs.

Raghu Ram attended the JD Tytler Kindergarten till Class 1, and later at Chinmaya Vidyalaya till Class 8 and at Delhi Tamil Education Association Senior Secondary School till Class 12. Raghu Ram graduated by attending three different institutions. He joined the Deshbandhu College under the University of Delhi, in the second year, he was shifted to Sri Venkateswara College under the University of Delhi, and in the third year of his graduation, he was again shifted to Osmania University in Hyderabad, where he completed his graduation. He started his career by joining MTV India as the supervising producer of popular shows MTV Love Line with VJs Malaika Arora and Cyrus Broacha in 1998. He also worked as a supervising producer of shows like MTV Select and the first few seasons of MTV Super Select with VJ Nikhil Chinapa. In 2004, he appeared as a contestant in the reality show Indian Idol Season 1 aired on Sony Entertainment Television Anu Malik, Farah Khan, and Sonu Nigam as judges. He was rejected due to inefficient singing ability and signature attitude traits.

The idea of MTV Roadies was suggested by Raghu Ram as an experimental project and MTV approved it in 2000. The senior producers of the channel had a lack of conviction about the show that was initially titled as MTV: Find The Road, however, it gained popularity from its second season and went on to become the longest-running reality show on Indian television. Ram is currently the senior supervising producer of MTV India. He was the executive producer and judge of MTV Roadies till 2014. He was also the executive producer of the show MTV Splitsvilla, launched in 2008.

Raghu Ram married actress Sugandha Garg in 2006, but they got separated in 2016. In 2018, he married Natalie Di Luccio, an Italian-Canadian classical-crossover singer from Toronto, Ontario, who is a singer in Bollywood and also a YouTube vlogger. Raghu first saw Natalie on her Youtube channel where she performed her rendition of the song Kahin Toh Hogi Woh from the film Jaane Tu… Yaa Jaane Naa. While narrating his story to Humans Of Bombay, he said that their first meeting was quite formal and his recent separation and his shyness got the best of him. The first couple of months were extremely confusing for Raghu but it was Natalie who took the first step in the relationship. He did it with the suggestion from his ex-wife Sugandha who was working there as a moderator. Raghu Ram, along with his brother Rajiv Laxman, founded the content creation and brand communications studio named Monozygotic Solutions Pvt. Ltd in 2014. The company specializes in conceptualizing and executing content across multiple formats including TV and digital. He got the logo of the company tattooed on his right arm. In 2019, Raghu, with his brother Rajiv, also launched the reality show Skulls and Roses on the video-on-demand service platform Amazon Prime Video.

Raghu Ram is often known as Indian television’s rudest man for his aggressive behaviour. He is a huge supporter of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). His favourite actors are Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, and Madhuri Dixit. His favourite pastimes are singing and travelling. He loves reading books and his favourite books are Usain Bolt’s autobiography, Usain Bolt: 9.58, published by Harper Collins in 2010, and Mary Kom’s autobiography Unbreakable, co-authored by Dina Serto and published by Harper Collins in 2013. His favourite food includes Chinese cuisine, Moong Dal Halwa and Tea. Raghu Ram quit smoking on Apr 26, 2016, and has taken it to Twitter to share it with his fans and followers. He also collaborated with Nicotex and used his social media handles to spread awareness on the harmful effects of smoking by using hashtags like #NicotexMakesItEasy and #QuitWithNicotex.
