Aaj Tak, the Nation’s No. 1 News Channel was back with the 4th edition of its much acclaimed Literature Festival SAHITYA AAJ TAK. The three day literature festival was scheduled for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd November 2019 from 11 am to 8 pm everyday at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi. The entry for the event, which brought strands of poetry, storytelling and Bollywood together, was complimentary on registrations.

The event, which is held to highlight the importance of art and literature in today’s time, brings together a diverse mix of India’s renowned personalities from writers, authors, scholars, actors, musicians, columnists, business leaders, poets and theatre artists on one platform where they express their views openly and engage in a meaningful conversation.

India Today Group Editorial Director Kalli Purie gave the inaugural speech at the event that marked the presence of renowned intellectuals and key literary figures from India. She said, “Welcome to the 4th edition of Sahitya Aaj Tak. This amazing journey with as many as 200 prominent personalities will persist for three consecutive days, where you will enjoy the beauty of poetry, story-telling, music, drama and mushayara from all corners of the country.”

The literary personalities of the country debated and discussed various ideas and issues that the India was facing. The authors, poets, journalists and academician-politicians shared their experience and recited poetries.

This year, the India Today Group added to the celebration of the Literary Spirit by holding the English Festival in addition to the Hindi and vernacular stages.

The mega festival, Saahitya Aaj Tak 2019, was attended by a host of celebrities such as Singers— Malini Awasthi, Roohani Sisters, Hans Raj Hans, Anup Jalota, Ravi Kishan, Manoj Tiwari, Writers—Chetan Bhagat, Anand Neelakanthan, Devdutt Pattanaik, Ashok Vajpeyi, Shayars—Rahat Indori, Waseem Barelvi, Poets—Kumar Vishwas, Swanand Kirkire, Udai Prakash, lyricists Manoj Muntashir, Irshad Kamil, Sameer and many others.

Literary fest brought together uch-admired lyricists like Javed Akhtar and Prasoon Joshi, acclaimed actors Anupam Kher and Nandita Das, and famous director Anurag Kashyap. The renowned personalities discussed various issues and debated many topics at the event.

Consulting editor, India Today Group Rajdeep Sardesai talked about the art of writing in today’s polarised world with senior Congress leader Manishankar Aiyar, JDU leader Pawan Verma and BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi.

During one of the sessions at the event, authors Manjul Bajaj and Devapriya Roy talked about their new books – In Search Of Heer and Friends from College – respectively. Author and painter Amruta Patil spoke about her research and gave an idea about her newly launched graphic novel. Lyricist Swanand Kirkire spoke about winning National award for acting, and more. Manjul Bajaj said that love is the answer to all of the world’s problems. Director and producer, Aanand L Rai opened up on his relationship with Shah Rukh Khan, Dhanush and love. political activist, poet, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar said that loving your country is as natural as loving your parents. Writer Ashish Bagrecha said that he has always been surrounded by people who did not encourage him.

Bishan Singh Bedi said that the Indian cricket team currently is made of just one person – Virat Kohli. Celebrated authors Romesh Gunesekera, Ashok Ferrey and Chimmi Tenduf-La talked about writings from Sri Lanka. Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actor Shailesh Lodha spoke about how social media is a nuisance. Amrita Narayanan and Madhuri Banerjee talked about writing erotica in India. Manoj Tiwari spoke about Bhojpuri film industry, Delhi pollution and upcoming Delhi elections. Actor Ashutosh Rana spoke at length about his book – Maun Muskaan Ki Maar. Anupam Kher said that the demonetisation decision was right. Maestro Javed Ali sang a kalaam in honour of Hazrat Ali. Well-known novelist Mridula Garg and famous poet Ashok Vajpayee supported the separation of religion and society.

Indian film and theatre actor, music director, lyricist, singer and scriptwrite Piyush Mishra discussed his book ‘Kuch Ishq Kiya Kuch Kaam Kiya’. Annu Kapoor shared his views on many issues from Ayodhya dispute to corruption in politics. Pankaj Kapur opened up on his first book Dopehri and his son Shahid Kapoor.

Besides, many other celebrities opened up on their journey in their respective industries at Sahitya AajTak 2019. The event also witnessed many journalists and activists who debated various topics.
