Sameera Reddy is a former Indian actress who was born on 14 December 1980 in Mumbai Maharashtra to a Telugu father and a Kannadiga mother. Reddy, who has primarily worked in Bollywood films, has also acted in south Indian films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages.
Sameera has two elder sisters—Meghna Reddy, a former VJ and supermodel, and Sushma Reddy, a model and a Bollywood actress.
Reddy did her schooling from Bombay Scottish School in Mahim, Mumbai and completed her graduation from Sydenham College. Sameera describes herself as a “tomboy” and “the ugly duckling in the family” while citing: “I was plump, had glasses and my glam quotient was rather low till I was 19.
Sameera first appeared in a music video of ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas “Aur Aahista” in 1997. She was meant to make her debut in Tamil film “Citizen’ as an actress during early 2000s, but eventually she did not appear in the movie. Sameera made her debut with film Maine Dil Tujhko Diya in 2002. She left the Bollywood awestruck with her amazing performance in the film. She played a key role which was appreciated by the viewers.
In 2004, Sameera acted in film Musafir opposite Anil Kapoor, Aditya Pancholi and Koena Mitra.
Sameera has also acted in many other films such as Darna Mana Hai in 2003, Jai Chiranjeeva in 2005, Ashok in 2006, Race in 2008, De Dana Dan in 2009, Oru Naal Vaarum in 2010, Tezz in 2012, etc.
She is also the first Indian actress to have her own video game—“Sameera the Street Fighter”. This mobile video game can be easily downloaded by millions of people or her fans and is available to smartphone users in India.
Besides, Reddy is a big fan of American talk show hostess Oprah Winfrey. She met Oprah during her visit to India at the welcome party hosted by Parmeshwar Godrej. As per the reports, Oprah was impressed by Sameera’s saree. Later, the renowned television personality was presented a similar saree as a gift by the actress before she left India.
Sameera married an entrepreneur, Akshai Varde on 21 January 2014. The couple has a son (born in 2015) and a daughter (born in 2019).
