The popular Indian actress and politician, Jaya Prada celebrated her 58th birthday this year on April 3. Jaya Prada has appeared in many hit films in various languages like Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi. She left the film career and entered politics in 1994 by joining the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). She was a Member of Parliament (MP) from Rampur from 2004 to 2014.

Jaya Prada was born as Lalita Rani on April 3, 1962, in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh to Krishna Rao, a Telugu film financier and Neelaveni, a home-maker. Jayaprada attended a Telugu Middle school in Rajahmundry. In her early age, she got professional training in dance and music classes. She joined Rajlakshmi Women College in Rajahmundry for doing a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce but dropped out in the first year.

Jaya Prada Political Career
Jaya Prada joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1994 by the invitation of party’s founder N. T. Rama Rao. After NTR disappeared from the party leadership due to some serious illness, Jaya Prada joined the Chandrababu Naidu faction of the party. She was nominated to the Rajya Sabha representing Andhra Pradesh in 1996. She also held the position of the President of Telugu Mahila, the women’s wing of the Telugu Desam Party.
She later left TDP to join Samajwadi Party and contested in 2004 General election from Rampur parliamentary Constituency in UP and was elected with a margin of more than 85000 votes. On February 2, 2010, she was expelled from the Samajwadi party allegedly indulging in anti-party activities and damaging the party’s secular image. In 2011, she joined Rashtriya Lok Manch but left the party in 2014. On March 10, 2014, she along with Amar Singh joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal and contested in the 2014 general elections from the Bijnor seat, however she lost the election. On March 26, 2019, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of National General Secretary Bhupender Yadav.

Jaya Prada married film producer Shrikant Nahata who was already married and had three kids with his ex-wife. Jaya Prada has an impressive range of luxury cars in her garage, which includes a Mercedes Benz, an Outlander and a Ford Endeavour. She owns the Jaya Prada theatre in Chennai. Her favourite actors are Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan and her favourite singers are Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar.
