Bhagyashree Patwardhan, the Indian actress who has worked in Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Telugu and Bhojpuri films, celebrated her 51st Birthday on 23 February 2020.

Bhagyashree was born on 23 February 1969 in a royal Sangli family in Maharashtra. Her full name is Shrimant Rajkumari Bhagyashree Raje Patwardhan. Her father is Vijay Singhrao Madhavrao Patwardhan, the Maharaja of Sangli and also a music director and mother Rani Rajyalekshmi Patwardhan. She has two younger sisters Madhuvanti Patwardhan, settled in Chicago and Purnima Patwardhan, settled in Canada.

Bhagyashree’s acting debut was in Sooraj Barjatya’s 1989 musical romance film Maine Pyar Kiya alongside Salman Khan in his first leading role. The film is the most successful and best-known films in her career. She won the 35th Filmfare Award for ‘Best Female Debut’ for her role in the film while Salman Khan won the ‘Best Male Debut’.
Bhagyashree has appeared in more than 20 films and 15 television series in her acting career. She made her television debut in the Doordarshan show Kachchi Dhoop alongside Shalmalee Palekar, Purnima Pathwardhan, Ashutosh Gowariker and Prashant Bhatt. The series written by Chitra Palekar received an overwhelming response from the audience. After she married Himalaya Dasani they together appeared in three films in 1992, Ravindra Peepat’s romance drama film Qaid Main Hai Bulbul alongside Rana Jung Bahadur, and Sudha Chandran, K.C. Bokadia’s drama film Tyagi, starring Rajinikanth and Jaya Prada and Mahendra Shah’s Paayal, alongside Farida Jalal and many others.
Bhagyashree returned to Hindi films in the mid-2000s appearing in Maa Santoshi Maa (2003), Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006) and Red Alert: The War Within (2010). Ravindra Peepat’s 1993 adventure action drama Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi in which she starred alongside Avinash Wadhawan was the last Hindi movie she did in the 1990s as she went on to play roles in a few Tamil and Telugu films. She made her debut in Kannada with Phani Ramachandra’s comedy-romance film Ammavra Ganda. Her debut in Telugu was in Upendra Rao’s 1997 action film Omkaram alongside Dr Rajasekhar and Prema. She also appeared in Kodanda Rami Reddy’s 1998 family action film Yuvarathna Rana.
She made her Bengali debut in M.N. Ispahani’s 1999 film Shotru Dhongsho alongside Shakil Khan and Elis Kanchan and Bhojpuri debut in Jagdish A. Sharma’s 2003 romance film Uthaeele Ghunghta Chand Dekhle opposite Ravi Kishan. In 2006 she appeared in Raj Kanwar’s romantic drama film Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, Chander H. Bahl’s Janani alongside Ayesha Jhulka and H. R. Bhargava’s Kannada biographical history drama film based on the life of Kumara Rama Gandugali Kumara Rama with Shivarajkumar in lead roles and Rambha, Laya and Anita Hassanandani in pivotal roles.
In 2007 she appeared in Aslam Shekh’s Bhojpuri romantic drama film Janam Janam Ke Jismani Saath alongside Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan, Nagma Arvind Morarji, Shakti Kapoor, Mohan Joshi and Kiran Kumar. She appeared in Sharad Bansode’s 2008 Marathi drama film Mumbai Aamchich alongside Padmini Kohlapure and Mohan Joshi. Bhaskar Jhadav’s 2009 Marathi comedy film Zhak Marli Bayko Keli alongside Vijay Gokhale and Bharat Jadhav and Manoj Kumar’s 2010 Bengali film Sati Behula alongside Ashok Bhattacharya and Arun Bir. In 2010, she shared the screen with Sunil Shetty, Vinod Khanna, Naseeruddin Shah, Sameera Reddy and Ayesha Dharker in Ananth Narayan Mahadevan’s action thriller drama film Red Alert: The War Within. The film was premiered at the 6th Stuttgart Film Festival in 2009.
In 2019 she appeared in Kannada action comedy film Seetharama Kalyana, directed by Harsha and had Nikhil Kumar and Rachita Ram in lead roles. She was expected to make a comeback with the Telugu remake of Abhishek Varma’s 2014 romantic drama film 2 States based on the 2009 novel of the same name written by Chetan Bhagat.
She will be next seen in K.K. Radha Krishna’s 2020 film Jaan jointly produced by Gopi Krishna Movies and UV Creations. The film starring Prabhas, Pooja Hegde and Kajal Agarwal is expected to be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu by December 2020.

Bhagyashree Personal Life
Bhagyashree is a graduate in Commerce. She married actor-turned-film producer Himalaya Dasani in 1990 and they have a daughter Avantika Dassani and a son Abhimanyu Dassani, who is also an actor. Bhagyashree along with her husband is the promoter of Shrishti Entertainments, an event management company based in Delhi and Mumbai. In 2015 she became the brand ambassador of the Bhagyashree Scheme, a social welfare project introduced by the Government of Maharashtra.
