IFFI Ceremony History
The first edition of International Film Festival of India was originated by the Films Division, Government of India and with the aegis of our anterior Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on 21st February 1952 in Delhi. It is one of the most influential film festivals held anywhere in Asia. This festival held annually, presently on the western coast of the country, Goa, intends to provide a universal and competitive platform for the film industry of the globe to reckon the supremacy of film art, contributing to the diversity of film cultures of different nations and promoting companionship and collaboration amongst the public. It has also given a new vision to the Indian Regional Cinema.
If we look into the golden era of the film industry, we will find that IFFI has come a long way in fomenting the hidden talent of both distinguished and burgeoning film directors. Movies are the indispensable factor of our lives and have affluent memoirs. It has gained a great prevalence over 50 years.
We are inclosing 50th year of IFFI this year and ensure to take it on new heights. Currently, we are heading towards the 50th edition in the IFFI epic from 1st to 49th. Arrangements for golden jubilee edition are being done around the clock.
The inaugural edition of IFFI sparked with a positive note in Bombay (now Mumbai) including the United States engaging in 40 feature films and 100 short films. Eventually, the festival was taken to other states of India, too, in the impending years like Madras, Delhi and Calcutta.
Posterior to the 49th edition of International Film Festival of India in Goa, preparations for the Golden Jubilee celebration had begun last year only with the overwhelming response of the film-lovers from various countries across the globe. Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare stated that the facilities at Goa would be embellished after achieving great success in the antecedent film bazaar. The Secretary told that the government is planning to manifest cinema tradition of every region of the world and would like to unearth the history of IFFI beginning from 1st to 49th edition. The government is engaged in all these preparations to fascinate more delegates in 50th IFFI.
This year, Goa, the land of sun, sand and sea will embrace the host of dignitaries from the political and cinematic panorama on this occasion. The valedictory ceremony of 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India will be inaugurated by renowned film personalities Amitabh Bachchan and Rajnikanth who are also the recipient of the ICON of the Golden Jubilee award this year. This star-studded spree is going to take place at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Stadium, Bambolim on November 20th. Bollywood film director Karan Johar will be hosting this colourful event for 10 days. IFFI will be witnessing the biggest names of Indian Film Industry and others across the globe in the upcoming event. Bend it Like Beckham actor Johnathan Reyes Meyers will also be the part of the opening ceremony of IFFI.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar and Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant will also be gracing the event.
The curtains of the sizzling event will be down shortly with the dazzling performances of myriad cultures, film snippets and on-stage camaraderie between Karan Johar, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth and other stalwarts and renowned thespians of world cinema. Ending the long wait, the 10-day scintillating event will commence at the banks of the Mandovi River in picturesque Goa. Pramod Sawant told at the curtain-raiser conference that they are all set with the venue preparations for welcoming the legends and honourable guests. Over 9300 delegates are anticipated in this prestigious film festival of India out of which 7000 will surely make their presence felt on this occasion.
As the new ideas are being carried out, Mini Movie Mania Short Film Competition has also been arranged for the burgeoning filmmakers. Over 200 scholars of the Goa Art College are also participating in the Goa Art Mile, an art installation program for the first time in 50 years of its journey.
CEO, Entertainment Society of Goa, Amit Satija clarified with the media for introducing paperless ticketing system. The online registrations of tickets can be done 48 hours before the screening of the movies, while counters open at 7:00 a.m.
The critically acclaimed French cinema thespian Isabelle Huppert will also be bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award at the opening ceremony of IFFI.
A thematic display of fusion music by Shankar Mahadevan and his band will also take place at the opening ceremony of 50th edition of IFFI.
