Murali Vijay, the Indian international cricketer, celebrated his 36th birthday on 1 April this year. Murali is a right-handed opening batsman who plays for the Indian Test team. He represents Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He also plays for Tamil Nadu cricket team in First-Class Cricket in Ranji Trophy, the top tier of the domestic first-class cricket tournament in India and List A tournaments, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Murali Vijay was born on 1 April 1984 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He graduated from the Vivekananda College in Mylapore, Chennai. Murali started playing cricket at the age of 17, at a cricket club in Chennai and later he was selected in the Tamil Nadu Under-22 team. He eventually ranked up in his career and in 2006, he made his debut first-class for the Tamil Nadu senior team. He made his debut first-class in 2006-2007 Ranji Trophy Tournament and became one of the top run-scorers. He represented South Zone, India Red and India A in October 2008. His Test debut was against Australia at Nagpur in November 2008, after regular opener Gautam Gambhir was banned for one match by the ICC.

Murali’s highest score in his test career is 167 runs against Australia in the match held in Hyderabad on March 2, 2003. His other top scores in test match are 155 runs against Srilanka in the match held at Delhi on December 2, 2017, 153 against Australia at Mohali on March 14, 2013, and 150 against Bangladesh at Fatullah on June 10, 2015. In a test cricket career spanning from 2008 to 2018, Murali scored a total of 3982 runs from the 61 matches with an average run rate of 38.28 and strike rate of 46.29.

Murali’s ODI debut was in the match against South Africa held at Ahmedabad on February 27, 2010, in which he scored 25 runs. His highest score in ODI is 72 runs against Zimbabwe in the match held at Harare on July 14, 2015. His Twenty20 debut was the match against Afghanistan at Gros Islet on May 1, 2010, in which made his highest T20 score of 48 runs. His second-highest score was 46 runs against Zimbabwe in the match on June 13, 2010. In his 5 years of T20 career from 2010 to 2015, he scored a total of 169 runs with an average run rate of 18.77 and strike rate of 109.74.

Murali played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) representing Chennai Super Kings from first to the sixth edition and representing Delhi Daredevils in the seventh edition. He was one of the key players for CSK won the championship in the third edition of IPL in 2010. Murali’s first century other than in his test career was in the IPL third edition for Chennai Super Kings by scoring 127 runs off 56 balls against the Rajasthan Royals. In the same year, Vijay made an impressive score of 294 runs in the Champions League T20 held in South Africa in which Chennai Super Kings winning the cup by defeating Warriors in the finals.

Murali was retained by Chennai Super Kings in IPL’s fourth edition in which his role was instrumental in the team winning the IPL champions for the second time in a row by scored 95 runs off 52 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes with a blistering strike rate of 183. In IPL fifth edition in 2012, Murali struggled to return to form in the beginning. His first few matches were a disaster for Chennai, but he returned to form by scoring 113 off just 59 balls against Delhi Daredevils. The century made him the only Indian cricketer to have scored two centuries in IPL’s history.

Murali was awarded the Man of the Match in the IPL third edition’s finals in 2010. In the 2010 Champions League Twenty20 held from 10 to 26 September 2010 in South Africa, Murali Vijay won the Golden Bat Award and was declared the Man of the Match of the final. In the IPL fourth edition in 2011, he was awarded the man of the match in finals, making it twice in a row.
