She is presented as a Pakistani Muslim girl named Shahida who was off-tracked to India and moved back to her motherland with the support of an Indian Brahmin devout named Pavan Kumar Chaturvedi (performed by Salman Khan). Malhotra was chosen by the movie director Kabir Khan and the casting director Mukesh Chhabra for the role of Munni among 5,000 girls who came for the film tryouts. After overcoming the hindrance of getting selected, she became the honeybunch for Kabir Khan and Salman Khan. Although she is very articulating in real life, she enacted as a mute girl in the movie.
